Sonam Rinzin is a renowned artist, teacher and singer/songwriter. He has been a professional Thangka painter and muralist for over 15 years in New York, and Nepal. He has taught at prestigious institutions such as the Rubin Museum, the Tsechen Kunchab Ling Monastery in Walden, NY, and the Niki Day School in Queens, NY.
Sonam grew up in Mustang, Nepal, amidst the sweeping and majestic mountains of the Himalayas, and started to draw at a very young age. At the age of 18, he began his studies of Buddhist teachings, traditional Tibetan music and Thangka painting at the Pullahari Monastery in Kathmandu, under his teacher Lhakpa Sherpa, Master Thankga painter of the Karma Kagyu tradition. The Third Jamgon Kongtrul Rinpoche opened Pullahari Monastery in March 1992.
In 2011, Sonam decided to make Brooklyn his home, and it has been our great fortune to welcome him as an epg gallery artist.
